Holy shit that's a hot guitar! No special effects going on here. Just a real wooden acoustic guitar, doused in gasoline, set on fire and filmed in front of a 15X12 green screen. As you can see the results are awesome. I wanted a shot that captured the whole guitar when the flames ignited to increase the number of ways that you could then composite the guitar into a scene. I've already chroma keyed out the green screen and rendered with a transparent alpha channel saving a lot of time and cpu stress, so the file is pretty much just drop into a timeline and go.

Of course when you burn stuff it's always good to take alternate angles. You've got to make the best use of the carnage so of course I had a second camera rolling framed in tight. It was a fun shot to do and surprisingly the guitar made nice explosions from the gas vaporizing inside the body and then blasting out. The mix of outdoor light and big soft boxes was a tricky arrangement to get smooth lighting on the green screen as well as consistent lighting on the guitar. I had to wait out several false starts as the sun shifted several times before getting a number of various shots on tape.
This clip is duplicated at the 15 second mark with an alpha channel matte rather than built in transparency. Using the black and white alpha matte, you can composite out the background of this shot or simply use it as a 15 second long shot with a black background.

Playing around with particle generators and some 2D vector artwork of various leaves leads to a seasonal background motion graphic like this. Trapcode Particular was used for the particle generation with 6 random leaves getting some spin and gravity. As my portfolio of stock footage grows the plan is to create a range of seasonal backgrounds that capture the spirit of a trip around the calendar. The double benefit is that I'm always needing various stock drawings as well for various graphics and the leaves can be used over and over in a multitude of new designs.

Self stock footage shot by me using a small mountable, waterproof HD camera (look for an upcoming blog about this). Out in my sea kayak on the Shores of Georgian bay, Ontario you can see my mad skills at carving a cool line around a rugged shoreline. Privately guiding and instructing sea kayaking since 2009 gives me lots of practice time to really edge over the boat and grab a nice smooth bite of water. Oh yeah...a really expensive carbon fibre paddle also goes a long way to making me look sick. This file has actually been online since October but I wanted to put it up here as I really like the shot.

Now on to the other big news here at Sound Pro Studios, my first full length After Effects tutorial! This is a big step as I have been working towards adding this feature among the other recent web site updates to make this a one stop place for creative media as well as learning the craft. My first tutorial is hereby officially christened and available in my tutorials section. It runs a full 56 minutes long, showing how to create a 3D scene from free media files you can download here from this site. As well you can download the CS4 project files and have a ready made project to customize as you see fit. I would love feedback on the tutorial through my contacts or Facebook page and encourage ideas, questions and links to how you have customized this project.
Lots more content to come....some things coming very soon will be a second rollout of free files including more texture photos, video clips, vector art and another free song, as well as new SPS promotional video examples and a video tutorial about camera stabilizers.
